The Self Polishing Wax

I know of a fellow. You cannot but notice him. He always makes himself noticed by all, announcing his peculiar presence everywhere he goes. He likes to be given the best recognitions and praises wherever he is.

He always thinks and believes that he’s smarter and better than everyone present in a particular place. This felling gives him utmost pleasure and satisfaction.

This fellow is always thinking of himself. His favorite words are, ‘I’, ‘Myself’, ‘Me’, ‘Mine’, and the like. He can’t help making a complete sentence without these words. It gives him great delight.

He is rude and unintelligent; never consulting reason in making all his decisions. His selfish interest overrules all. Lest I forget, this fellow is ‘always right’. He never sees his opinions as wrong and detests anyone looking at him in that light, even when it’s very clear. He wants all to see things only from his own perspective.

When his ideas and opinions are not considered, even taken, he feels outraged. His resentment and anger lasting a long time.

He never cares about your opinion as he speaks more than he listens, that’s even if he listens at all. He feels bitter when others are doing better than him. He is filled with envy and hate for such persons.

When he’s in a meeting, he doesn’t like to speak often. He’d like to be the chief speaker, taking a very long time in his speech, criticizing and relegating the suggestions of others, while offering his own ‘wonderful ideas’. He sees himself as a V.I.P and should be given adequate recognition and attention.

This fellow is very crafty. He sometimes converts some qualities of his antithesis to his benefits.

How much of his qualities will time and space allow me to list, it’s really pathetic.
Now it’s time to know this fellow by name. Well, your guess is probably close. PRIDE… that’s his name. I describe him as the self-polishing wax.

What is pride? If you look at your dictionary, the first few definitions probably means no harm. Well, the one definition I’m interested in is that which explains pride as a feeling of being better or important than other people; having a high opinion of yourself and your abilities that you believe you’re indispensable.

Now pride is like a virus. It infects unsuspecting and vulnerable hosts and when ‘he’ does that, that host is possessed, both in body and soul, but unfortunately, the possessed is hardly aware of what’s happening. Sure enough, he/she exhibits the above listed symptoms of pride, and even more, but these people see nothing wrong with their actions.

In fact, it’s like a vicious cycle. Pride infects a man and pride makes him feel too proud to see his pride.

This fellow called pride is a sure path to destruction and humiliations, just as the saying goes, pride goes before a fall.

A proud person is always a fool who may never become wise because he thinks he is wise already. With humility comes wisdom and honor and exaltation.

Whatever gifts, talents, or achievements you have, you can learn a lot more, make a lot more friends & achieve a lot more by being humble.

Check yourself to see if you can find any of pride’s symptoms in you. If you find any, take steps now to eliminate them. Flee from pride and save your soul.

Wishing you the very Best
