Six Anchors For Your Hopes

Hope is universal. It is the sole reason for existence. Without it, there would be no reason for living or achievements for how can one explain existence without looking forward to something better in the nearest future.

You’ll agree with me that one primary reason why some people commit suicide is that they cannot possibly see a better future for themselves.

Hope is a belief of expectation and desire. Hope is stronger than a mere wish. While a wish can come out of anyone’s clutter of thoughts and imaginations, in any circumstance, sporadically, without regard to ends and means, hopes are more of emphatic, with a greater propensity of being realized.

For instance, someone wishing to be a Medical Doctor and someone hoping to be a Medical Doctor differ. In a sense, the wisher probably is living in a fantasy world while the person hoping is likely in the process of being the medical doctor he dreams to be.

The concept of hope, however, has been misunderstood by many; the misunderstanding lying in the difference between hope and wish. You should clearly differentiate between the two.
It gets more interesting however that the concept of hope, if applied singly, will be no different from building imaginary castles in the air. This brings us to the important aspect of ‘ANCHORING OUR HOPES’.

An anchor is a heavy metal object for fastening a ship to the shore or sea bottom. Its use is to hold the ship in place or in position to prevent it from drifting away into the sea.

How then is this related to hopes? Well, follow me slowly and let’s make the analogy.

Let’s assume you’re the ship or better still, what you hope to achieve is the ship.
For the ship to arrive and remain at the shore (fulfilment or destination), it must be anchored to the seabed. Without the anchor being put in place, the sea will likely be carried away aimlessly on the sea; without any definite destination; lost and forgotten.

Hopes need Anchors. Hopes will surely fail without strong anchors.

Having made a clear picture, I’ll proceed to ask you: What are your dreams? Do you have any goals to achieve in your life? I’m certain you do. If so, what are your anchors? What are you holding on to get to your desired goal?

There are several anchors you can use to enable you achieve your goals. Here are six of them:

    1.    A PLAN
A goal or dream without a plan has no hope of survival. If you hope to achieve something, then what plans do you have to make the dreams a reality? Planning is one of the strongest anchors you can ever add to your arsenal of anchors. Detailed, meticulous planning will save you years of wasteful toiling. Very few people have a written plan for their lives. Enlist yourself into this group and I can assure you, you’re on your way to fulfilling those dreams of yours.

    2.    A MEANS
Assuming you hope to purchase a new car, house, a moccasin or a book by the end of the month. Without a means (cash), that hope is unlikely to be a reality. However, with savings, wages, etc, you can hope to purchase the item. The ‘means’ then has become your anchor.

    3. FRIENDS, SUBORDINATES, ACQUINTANCES, COLLEAGUES, SUPERIORS, FAMILY, MENTORS, ETC.
For you to achieve any goal, you need people. Just give it a little thought. Whatever you’ve ever achieved in life, people played a vital rode to its realization. True or False? If this is true, then you need to enlist this anchor. You can hardly be a sole achiever so start learning how to relate and network with good people. They can save you in time of dire need.

     4.    EFFORT OR ACTION
Without deliberate, never-say-die effort, nothing you ever hope to achieve will see the light of the day. It’s that simple.
Mere talk gets nothing done; neither does wishes or hopes alone. Making a sincere, determined, definite and focused effort towards achieving you goals will ensure its speedy actualization

You’ve got to move out and do something.

For your efforts towards achieving your goals to be effective, they must be accompanied by strong desire, drive and enthusiasm in addition to definiteness of purpose and determination. Effort is another great anchor.

     5.    PRESEVERANCE
One of the main reasons why dreams and goals fail to be achieved is that people quit too easily. Most people quit after trying just once without getting desired results. Too bad. The world would literally stop if only people like this were in existence.

Inventors, millionaires, philosophers, sages, name it; all achieved their goals applying this very anchor. The big shots you see today were simply small shots that simply kept shooting; so enlist Mr. Perseverance into your arsenal of anchors.

     6.    JESUS
This is the best possible anchor you can ever have. Guess why? Simple. He’s a one-in-all package. He is the only anchor that has the knowledge and abilities of all the other anchors combined. He never fails those who place their hopes in Him as an anchor.

Jesus is simply the best. He enables you achieve any of your dreams and goals provided they meet his standards (which are, of course, of excellent quality).

He’s more than a plan; he’s THE plan. He’s more than a means, He’s the owner and controller of ALL MEANS. He’s the creator and director. He’s more than a friend, a brother, a colleague or even a spouse or mentor; he’s THE PERFECT COMPANION.

He’s everything you can ever need. Make him your close friend and the sky’s the limit of your life.

That’s it friends; it’s now a situation of ‘the ball is in your court’. The choices you make or fail to make will determine how far you go in life. Get this six anchors fixed to your ship TODAY. Start something. Greatness is never an overnight affair (only sleep perhaps is). Make plans; be sure of your means; get people involved; take action; persevere; and accept JESUS into your heart.

Wishing you the very best.
