Just a few moments ago, I was downloading some software with an APP store manager. The download manager stopped responding for a while and windows asked me if I'd like to wait for the program to respond or to exit.
Well, I WAITED. I didn't exit the app. Why is this significant? Well I'll explain. It would have been kind of penny wise, pound foolish if I had restarted the app. If I had closed the app, I would still wait for a longer period of time in order to restart the app and resume my downloads, and guess what, I would start all the downloads over again (even those at 99%).
What does this teach? Waiting for something isn't necessarily a foolish idea. Our society today is always in a hurry. We're in the jet age where we need what we need NOW. That's cool, but we should also know that sometimes, waiting patiently for some stuff can save us some stress and also on the long run, prove to be more rewarding than exiting.
There's an ancient proverb that says " The patient dog eats the fattest bone". Some will tell you that this proverb does not apply these days, but if you consider the origin of the proverb and the story behind it, you'll realize that it applies perfectly even today.
The patient dog eats the fattest bone because the fattest bone is always removed last from the slaughtered animal. The other impatient dogs will quickly carry away the smaller bones which were removed first; but the patient dog knows that the fattest bones will come later. It prefers to wait for it, and at the end, it is rewarded.
It's wise to learn to WAIT.
What do you think???
