Spillover Effect...How Your Daily Habits And Character Affects Your Life

There are many definitions of ‘spillover effect’ ranging from economical to emotional definitions. But I’m not talking about all those stuff. The type of ‘spillover effect’ I’m interested in now is a special one that I created myself, still using the same term.

What am I talking about? The spillover effect I’m talking about here is this: ‘If as an individual, you tend to manage an area of your life very well, the effects of such a control or management will be evident in other areas of your life. Sounds cool, doesn't it?

I know what your next question is, and the answer is yes. It also applies vice versa. If you manage one area of your life poorly, the effects will spillover to other areas of your as well.

Does this always apply? Well, it depends on what you mean by ‘always apply’. But to clear things up, the spillover effect we’re discussing here is for areas of life or traits that involve character, habits and personality.

Of course, you can poke me in the face with examples of people who are good at something and horrible at another and you’ll be right. You’ll be right because this second ‘something’ in these people was brought out of an area clearly unrelated to the first and most probably, the first area dealt with skill and not character.

So, the spillover effect here will apply more to traits involving character and it’ll interest you to note here that character and on its own spills over (or influences) skill. Skill without character is somewhere you’d not like to be at all. That kind of life will not take you far in any endeavor. Don’t even think about going there.

Now let’s look at how this spillover effect works by taking a few examples.

TIME MANAGEMENT
It took me some thinking to find out that the concept of time management is an illusion. ‘Time management’ cannot be true for the mere simple fact that time is equal for every soul on earth and no one can add to, or subtract from time.
How then does it appear that some people get to achieve more than others? Why then do some have more free time and still manage to get more things done? It’s simple when you think about it. People like this are not necessarily good time managers; they manage their lives and schedules well with the much time that they have. Time management hence is simply a translation of LIFE MANAGEMENT.

If an individual manages his time well at work, the effect spills over to his family and community. His colleagues and his boss are also not left out. His company also grows as well.

A good manifestation of a good time manager is punctuality. A punctual man is always a confident man. He also performs well in whatever job he is given. This is the spillover effect at work.

INTELLIGENCE
Smart people are generally smart not on some specific areas alone, but on a lot of other areas as well. Their intelligence spills over to anything they come across. Intelligence hence is a good example where the spillover effect fully applies. Is it that there are people who are not intelligent enough to qualify for this spillover effect? Yes there are.

Is it possible then for you to be more intelligent than you currently are? Sure it is. It all depends on your persistence in applying several principles.

A GOOD NATURE
Politeness, courtesy, kindness and all manifestations of a good nature have very powerful spillover effects. Being good-natured will manifest in your family, job, finances and of course, relationships. In itself, a good nature can bring you opportunities very few things can.

If you’re not a people person, you can and you should. Let go of yourself and focus on others. Learn about personalities and people. Be nice to people for it is one skill that may probably bring you more joy, wealth and friends than you can imagine, and what more can you ask for in life?

FINALLY
The focus here is on character building and the point is that character building has an exponential effect. It not only focuses on that specific area you wish to work on. It also affects other areas of your life, so, take time to build yourself.

Make character building a priority and within a short while, you’ll be so good and versatile that your mere presence will be a source of immense joy and satisfaction to people around you.

SEE YOU AT THE TOP
