Hi. Today we're going to discuss briefly, the idea of goals. How to set and achieve goals with as little effort as possible.
First, if you don't have any goals, then you should take time out to set goals. Set your goals in categories, for example, Family, Career, Finances, Education, Health, Academic,Business, Spiritual, Social, Relationships, etc, as it applies to you.
Most importantly,
take out a piece of paper and write them down according to those categories.
Write down as many items as possible in each category. As much as it comes to your mind. Write them all down.
Then put your lists in your wallet or purse and read them at least once daily. You can edit them as you deem fit as time goes on.
Very important. You should make sure your goals obey the 'SMART' rule.
S= Specific
M= Measurable
A= Actionable
R= Realistic
T= Time Bound
AFTER YOU SET YOUR GOALS
Make plans to help you in the process of achieving your goals.
A goal without a plan to achieve it is simply a daydream. For each goal, set out a set of things you must do to achieve it.
NOW, HERE'S THE SECRET
ON BEING REALISTIC
This is where I had my idea about goals. Making a goal realistic means not trying to achieve the goal by overtasking or overburdening yourself with unrealistic expectations.
For example, if you've never deliberately exercised before. It would be unrealistic to plan running a mile every day beginning from tomorrow morning.
You may do it once or twice, and then you'll stop, resorting to procrastination, giving excuses or being plain discouraged.
You were discouraged because your plan was unrealistic. Your goal was good, but your plan was unrealistic.
This now makes thegoal very difficult to achieve since our brains does all it can to avoid pain, we hence lack the necessary motivation to proceed.
But if you choose to begin with walking for 10 minutes once a week for about 4 weeks first, then 2 times a week for the next 4 weeks, and so on, till you begin running once a week and so on, you'll progressively improve and most likely go ahead to achieve your goal of better health and fitness.
Of course, anything of worth including goals takes time, committment and discipline to achieve.
Most goals doesn't require you to do something just once to achieve it. Steps built upon one another are required and the only sure way to keep taking action is to begin small and keep progressing as you go on.
This was the idea I had.
I hope it helps you achieve all your goals.
Cheers...
